It all started three years ago. That's when Alyssa Mayorga, now 10, started collecting pennies off the street. The reason was she knew that if she saved them, they could buy all sorts of things.
Alyssa, now called the Penny Princess, started saving and decided to help police dogs after hearing the story of one such dog killed in action. Since then, she has saved enough to hand out more than 20 bulletproof vests for police dogs in 12 agencies throughout California.
